About Me

Tom-Heeter-App-Development-ConsultantMy life has had two career tracks:  Real Estate and Technology.  Out of college, I specialized in auditing with Kenneth Leventhal & Company (now part of Ernst & Young), and then went on to earn my C.P.A. designation as an internal auditor/internal control system specialist. From there, I started a successful real estate investment and consulting firm, and personally came to own and manage approximately 330,000 s.f. of office-industrial space.  Representative tenant clients included American Automobile Association, Sherwin Williams Company, S.C. Johnson & Son, Inc. Additionally, I successfully negotiated strategic partnership/consulting relationships with Transamerica Real Esate Managment Company (now part of Aegon N.V.), and MONY (now part of AXA Finacial, Inc.).  As a land developer, I developed the Sablewood subdivision in Friendswood, Texas, handling all operation aspects such as: contract administration, government zoning interaction, engineering compliance review, and lot “take-outs” with designated home builders.

Anticipating a major technology shift in the mobile payments space, I launched a startup company called SmartPay®, based on 2D bar codes, to provide an alternative to RFID for mobile point of sale (POS) payments. Through SmartPay, I gained experience with state-of-the-art code development practices, agile software project management, and numerous mobile app development paradigms. I also gained valuable insight in to strategic alliances, and the patent process. So far, I have been awarded two patents in this field with numerous patents pending.

Currently, I am an independent mobile app/special projects consultant, assisting companies with developing specifications for mobile solutions and screening developers to build the apps, while maintaining the integrity of the customer’s intellectual property.
